GENERAL SYLLABUS OUTLINE

Course Name: Instrumental Music
Grade: 6-8
1.) Course Description:
Students in a large group setting will prepare music covering a wide range of musical concepts.  
Students will prepare music in a large group rehearsal once a day and small group practice once a week
preparing music for annual concerts.  Large group rehearsals consists of grade 6-8 and all 
instrumentation, small group rehearsal, consists of same grade and live instrumentation.

v Recognize, know, use, and demonstrate a variety of appropriate arts elements and 
principles to produce, review, and revise original works in the arts.
v Know and use fundamental vocabulary within each of the arts forms.
v Describe and use knowledge of a specific style within each art form through a performance
or exhibition of unique work.
v Know and demonstrate how arts can communicate experiences, stories or emotions
through the production of works in the arts.
v Identify the function and benefits of rehearsal and practice sessions.
v Use and maintain materials, equipment and tools safety at work and performance spaces.
v Describe arts events that take place in schools and in communities.
v Apply traditional and contemporary technologies for producing, performing and 
exhibiting works in the arts or the works of others.
v Apply traditional and contemporary technology in furthering knowledge and understanding in
the humanities.

v Demonstrate knowledge of at least two styles within each art form through performance
or exhibition of unique works.
v Communicate a unifying theme or point of view through the production of works in the arts.
v Explain works of others within each art form through performance or exhibition.
v Explain the function and benefits of rehearsal and practice sessions.
v Demonstrate and maintain materials, equipment and tools safely at work and performance
spaces.
v Know where arts events, performances and exhibitions occur and how to gain admission.
v Incorporate specific uses of traditional and contemporary technologies within the design
for producing, performing, and exhibiting works in the arts or the works of others.
v Incorporate specific uses of traditional and contemporary technologies in furthering
knowledge and understanding in the humanities.

v  "Yamaha 5-minute Daily Warm Up for Band"
v  Band repertoire will rotate on a 3 to 4 year scale
