    Middle School Technology Education Curriculum
     
    Sixth Grade Technology Education

    This is the first of three courses in the Technology Education/Industrial Arts area at the Middle School.  Emphasis is placed on understanding how technology affects society in everyday living.  Learning experiences with tools, materials, equipment, and processes represented by the technological industry will be provided for students to explore and gain understanding of technology.  Communications, transportation, and material processing are included in this class.

     

     
    Seventh Grade Technology Education

    This is the second of three courses in the Technology Education/Industrial Arts area at the Middle School.  Emphasis is placed on understanding how transportation affects society in everyday living.  Learning experiences with tools, materials, equipment, and processes represented by the transportation industry will be provided for students to explore and gain understanding of transportation.  History of land, air, space, and water transportation will be included in this class as well as projects pertaining to each of the transportation system.

     

     
    Eighth Grade Technology Education
    This is the third of three courses in the Technology Education/Industrial Arts area at the Middle School.  Emphasis is placed on visual communications, construction, and manufacturing affect society in everyday living.  Learning experiences with tools, materials, equipment, and processes represented by visual communication, construction, and manufacturing industries will be provided for students to explore and gain understanding of visual communications, construction, and manufacturing.  History of visual communications, construction, and manufacturing will be included in this class as well as projects pertaining to visual communication, construction, and manufacturing.
     
     
    High School Technology Education Curriculum
     
    FOUNDATIONS FOR TECHNOLOGY AND ENGINEERING

    This course is the recommended prerequisite for all other TED courses. The objective of this course is to help the students develop a foundation of knowledge and experience in each area of Technology Education. Students will engage in hands-on / minds-on activities with STEM (Science Technology Engineering Mathematics) concepts being the main focus. Students will follow the design process to solve various design and engineering challenges.

     

    ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN

    The objective of this course is to challenge students with the task of planning and designing a residential structure. Students will study the history of home construction, basic house designs, primary considerations, drafting fundamentals, room and space planning, plot planning as well as construction systems and their techniques. Students will (based on specific parameters) create sketches, 2 dimensional floor plans, elevation drawings and pictorial views both mechanically using traditional drafting tools, and CADD technology. Students will then create a 3D digital model and a physical scale model of their design.

     

    HUMANITIES CORE: EXPLORING TECHNOLOGY

    The objective of this course is to provide the student with a basic understanding of what Technology Education is. Students will engage in activities that will challenge them to complete tasks in design and engineering.

     

    VISUAL & GRAPHIC COMMUNICATION

    The objective of this course is to have students explore various forms of visual and graphics communications technology. Basic design principles and practical application of visual communication design in illustration, typography, photography, videography, publication and web. Students will use various software and websites on a PC to create enhanced/altered images, videos, slide shows, posters and other forms of print. Students must supply their own digital cameras.

     

    POWER, ENERGY & TRANSPORTATION

    The objective of this course is to have students explore various transportation systems and the energy sources that power them. In Energy, Power and Transportation, students will use the Systems Model and the Technological Design Process along with critical thinking, problem solving, technical drawing, science concepts and math skills while solving problems in hands-on activities. Student’s will investigate and apply concepts of design in an attempt to solve technological problems related to different transportation systems. Students will design various transportation systems (both vehicular and/or stationary) that will travel in different environments, using different sources/forms of energy to generate power to move the vehicle.

     

    ROBOTIC ENGINEERING

    The objective of this course is to use a hands-on approach to introduce the basic concepts in robotics. This course introduces fundamental concepts in Robotics. In this course, basic concepts will be applied in autonomous as well as remote controlled robots. These concepts will be applied in engineering challenges with LEGO NXT’s and Pitsco Tetrix robot lab kits. In addition to this, students will also develop a working relationship with a local industry advisor that will assist students in the manufacturing of a robot that the students will design and enter in the annual BotsIQ competition. Fundraising may be necessary for the BotsIQ competition.

     

    STAGE PRODUCTION

    The objective of this course is to allow students to apply basic and advanced design and construction techniques to build set pieces and props for the high school fall play and spring musical. Students may be required to work after school to complete necessary projects related to the course.
