ESL Program Goal:The goal of the English as a Second Language (ESL) curriculum is to enable English Language Learners to develop language skills that are needed to achieve academically in the school setting and to adjust socially to the U.S. culture. The ESL curriculum is based on the Pennsylvania State Standards for English Language Proficiency. Instruction is designed to develop English language proficiency while focusing on the four skills of reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
WIDA ACCESS for ELLs Exam:
All students are required to take the WIDA ACCESS for ELLs 2.0 annual exam, typically in February. This exam is used to determine the English language proficiency level of all English language learners in the state of Pennsylvania. It assesses students in the four core areas of English language proficiency: reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
